6 year (overnight) success

6 years ago this month I left college to start Aunt Flow.

After attending an event and getting my period in public without a tampon, I knew that solving this problem was a worthy cause.

It was 2016 and at that time I was living in Ohio. No states had passed legislation requiring schools to offer free period products and when I announced my first event "Menstruation Nation®" - I got death threats.

I had to start somewhere and the first place to start was just TALKING about periods.

I hosted crowdfunding campaign events, Period Parties®, baked brownies that looked like vulvas, filmed videos of regular people sharing their first period stories, and made buttons with pictures of ovaries.

It was the start of a wider movement. The menstrual movement.

In December 2018, Harlem Capital, Precursor Ventures, Breaktrail Ventures, Techstars, and incredible angel investors made a bet that I could create an industry around this silly, wacky idea. I raised a $1.5m Seed.

And make an industry we did. Fast forward through a global pandemic when our team pivoted and turned business-ending headwinds into $12m in revenue and $3m in profit in 2020 ...

And here we are in 2022...

  • 23,000 bathrooms are stocked with Aunt Flow 100% organic cotton period products.

  • 8 states passed legislation requiring schools to offer accessible tampons and pads in bathrooms.

  • 29 full time team members dedicate energy to building this company.

  • $11.2m raised in venture funding to make this market a reality.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, but with hard work, it does happen. [read full post here]
